word salad this Sunday

This Sunday’s Word Salad – part of ELFM’s popular Sunday Joint – has a different look. (Listen at www.elfm.co.uk)

At 4pm we start a new series, One on One, in which I will be interviewing an established writer from the region. This Sunday it’s Michael Stewart whose debut novel, King Crow, won The Guardian’s Not The Booker prize. Michael is also a playwright, editor, lecturer, and organiser of the Huddersfield Literature Festival. He will be reading from the fascinating King Crow and talking about his work.

At 5pm as usual I will be presenting The Word Salad, this time themed around the Olympic ideal of Truce, featuring stories, poetry, comedy, and discussion. And stay tuned for Mila Dores. bringing you Portuguese jazz live from our Parlour. The next Salad, on April 1st, will be themed around The Wild, and our One on One writer will be young people’s fiction writer and illustrator Steve Augarde.

Spring is in the air with this month’s Sunday Joint. May it put a spring in your step as well as your soul. And there’s a new look to this Joint’s schedule….

Truce-462x400

2pm-4: F-On The Groove. Funkmeister Paul Eubanks returns to present mellow mixes and quizzical quizzes: 70′s style.

4.00pm-4.30: One on One: an interview with Huddersfield writer Michael Stewart. Michael recently won The Guardian’s ‘Not The Booker’ award with his debut novel ‘King Crow’. With extracts from the book, Michael talks about his past, present, and future as a writer.

4.30pm-5: The ELFM Shuffle. The best of local music on the best station for local music.

5pm-6.30:  The Word Salad, our monthly programme for word lovers, is themed around the Olympic ideal of Truce. In the dictionary Truce is defined as a ‘temporary cessation of hostilities’. More broadly, it’s a pause, a rest, a respite, a lull. We will have comedy, poetry, dialogue, discussion, music on Truce, plus gobbets from the classics read by our very own Salad Readers.

6.30pm: Live from down in The Parlour, Iberian jazz from the fabulous singer and songwriter Mila Dores.
