For anyone struggling to know what the difference is between conceptual art, installation art and the avant garde, here goes:

 

Conceptual art is when someone has an idea that exceeds both his talent and ability. That’s why Damien Hirst employs assistants.

 

Installation art is when someone without either ability or talent doesn’t have an idea.

 

The avant garde, in the words of John Lennon, "is French for bullshit".
